Your Two Cents Worth Have Never Been More Helpful!

The Shipping Post recently wrapped up their Coins for Kids Program, whereby they raised over $3,200.00 to help Chell Pender’s efforts in helping kids in need – right here in Charlotte County at Murdock Middle School.

Among her many other duties at the school, Chell Pender runs a program that provides new shoes, clothes, and food to children in need at Murdock Middle School.  This program also gets support from the local Kiwanis Club, the Chick-fil-A in Port Charlotte, and a host of other small businesses.

Chell states, “So many of the kids here have bad circumstances at home that they have to deal with. We can’t do anything about this issue.   But on top of this, many of them come to school in clothes or shoes that don’t fit, and this is an issue we can do something about.  My colleagues and I feel strongly that these young teens shouldn’t have to deal with being ostracized because their clothes or shoes don’t fit or are in tatters. The help The Shipping Post has given us this year, not only in terms of financial support, but also in terms of volunteering to help get and keep things organized, is incredible. We feel blessed.”

According to Carol Drayton, co-owner of The Shipping Post, The Coins for Kids was a great success. Raising money and volunteering to help Chell is a perfect fit for The Shipping Post. Carol stated, “Everyone, both employees and customers alike, truly felt good about raising money to help Chell. She saw a problem and just rolled up her sleeves and went about making things better. How can you not feel good about helping someone doing something like that?”

As a way to continue to raise money for local charities, starting in October this year and, for the first time ever, The Shipping Post is going to charge more for a first-class forever postage stamp than the Post Office does… but only $0.02 (two cents) more.  The Shipping Post plans on applying the bulk of these additional proceeds to help fund their efforts to aid local charities.  Hence, the name “Twi Cents Worth Program.”

“Although The Coins for Kids Program was a success, it seems like every business nowadays is asking you to round up your purchase. And even though these funds may all be going to good causes, we wanted to try a different, less intrusive way to raise money for local charities,” adds Mark Drayton, Carol’s husband and partner at The Shipping Post. “By collecting two cents more on every stamp, we’ll be asking very little from individuals in the community, but should be able to collect from thousands of people over the year –and in so doing, we should be able to raise enough to continue to help Chell help the kids in need in Charlotte County.”
